PRESENCE
Executive Presence: Key to elevating the SDR Leader role

Do you know how to speak to your C-level?

As in, have you had training for it?

Communication is key for SDR leaders, whether to their SDRs, their managers, cross-functionally, or, most importantly, to the C-suite.

Yet, we don't give SDR leaders, traditionally, the skills to be able to communicate in either written, vocal or how to present themselves.

When we talk, as a community, about dictating how the SDR function looks by 2030, a big part of that will be how SDR Leaders are conveying the message they are trying to deliver to the higher-ups. You might have all the stats, you might have all the records that are being broken, but if you cannot bring that all together for a CRO, CMO or CEO to understand, we will never get to be on the top table.

When speaking to the C-level, less is more. Your role is to filter up the most pertinent aspects from your business unit and succinctly convey how those will be resolved. Ive been in many C-level meetings where ive seen very senior leaders go on and on about particular topics, and the CEO has switched off and isnt’t listening anymore. They want to know that you’ve got the situation in hand. That also comes back around when you are asked by these C-levels about how you will resolve a problem. They want to know clearly what areas you will focus on and what the benefits of doing it this way are.

So what are the aspects we can do to elevate our presence? Some of the best executive communication training that ive been lucky to be a part of was with Decker Communications. They have a great programme for structuring your story that you want to convey, at any level and also how to then package that for the C level.

Some of the key components of this are the following:

  • Pace: Slow down how you speak, if you’re speaking fast, it shows a lack of confidence in what you are saying.

  • Pause: Be sure to take a breath sometimes, to let what you’ve said be consumed. This could be an important metric thats being hit/missed. Ensure youre allowing your message to breathe.

  • Eye Contact: In an in-person setting, this shows that you are engaging with the whole room, and it shows confidence. Take half a second to look at everyone around the room in the eye whilst youre delivering your message

The final part of this is practice. Never go into any meeting with executives cold, without any preparation. Ensure the flow of your message is tight and that you are prepared with any of the necessary information they are looking for.

INTERVIEW
We want to hear from YOU!

When this newsletter first started three-plus years ago, our main focus was to spotlight the incredible SDR/GTM leaders who subscribed and to deliver an interview segment to you every week. These SDR leaders shared their expertise and experience building sales development teams, whilst providing real-time advice on how to address some of the biggest issues we face every day.

And we want to bring that back!

So if you are interested in being part of this newsletter and discussing some of the big topics that are facing SDR leaders on a day-to-day basis, be that management of SDRs, managing managers or running global sales development teams, we want to hear from you and have your voice amplified within this newsletter.

COMMUNITY
Introducing our city heads

In a prior newsletter that we sent out, we discussed our vision for SDR Leaders Global. We discussed the importance of building this community not only through our quarterly meetups, but also from the bottom up, ensuring that SDR Leaders connect more regularly. Be that from breakfast sessions, be that from happy hours, be that a good old pickleball tournament! We wanted to create a model where it doesn't matter where you are in EMEA or in North America, we wanted to create a model that allowed leaders to connect with their local group on a more regular basis.

Our North America Chapter Heads

Over the last few months, you will have seen a lot of announcements on LinkedIn and our Slack channels about our chapter heads in the USA and our collective heads in EMEA. The purpose of these people is they are going to be your city representatives on the ground on a day-to-day basis who will be able to facilitate meetings of all of you but also facilitate as a place for if you're needing advice and an Intel on talent that's out there, SDR talent that's out there on new roles that come up and creating local introductions.

Our EMEA Collective Heads

We've already started to see some really great initiatives that are happening within these city heads. It’s really exciting to see the passion and creativity coming through from our leader, wanting to help develop their peers.

If you don't see a city that has been represented yet and you think you can aide developing your city, let us know by replying to this mail!
